Un élément qui n'explique peut-être pas tout, mais que j'ai vu
mentionner, est que le préfixe "f" pour 10^-18 était pratique
dans la mesure où il était compatible avec l'abbréviation utilisée
couramment pour l'unité de longueur « non officielle », le fermi :

  1 fm = 1 femtomètre = 1 fermi
